This week we welcomed members of the North of England Branch Institute of Quarrying for a site tour at Miller’s headquarters in Cramlington. With a strong foothold in quarrying and mining, Miller was keen to share our knowledge of the sector and our facilities, as well as gain further firsthand insight from leaders in the mineral extraction industry how Miller can continue to support this industry.
Established over 100 years ago, the Institute of Quarrying is the only professional body of its type to provide support – backed by history, knowledge and international experience – for people working in the mineral products sector. As part of the visit, Miller welcomed members of the Institute from leading companies including M J Hickey Plant Hire & Contractors and Aggregate Industries.
To kick off the visit, our Commercial Director, James Ross, introduced Miller, our history, products and site solutions, as well as the work that we do within the sector. This was followed by a site tour – delivered by our Global Manufacturing Leader, Gregg Hudson and our Operations Manager Phil Bush – which gave a comprehensive insight into the full manufacturing process of our buckets and couplers from profiling and machining of materials, welding and fabrication right through to painting, storage and packing. It also presented an opportunity to showcase our latest robot – complimenting our existing suite – which has the impressive capabilities to precision weld attachments for machines up to 100T.
The delegates then took a visit to our dedicated Site Solutions facilities, located just five minutes from our HQ, with Conor Thompson, Miller’s Site Solutions Manager delivering the tour. Conor showcased not only Miller’s facilities housing the latest line boring technologies and overhead craneage capabilities, but also the extensive and varied range of projects currently underway at the facilities that will significantly prolong the lifespan, productivity and safety of our customers equipment.
From repairs of heavy machining equipment, buckets, couplers and vehicles to large skip overhauls and custom builds of large bespoke buckets, delegates were greatly impressed by Miller’s extensive offering and ability to take on projects of any nature.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the North of England Branch of the Institute of Quarrying for attending our facilities and transferring their knowledge of the sector.
