MILLER HOSTS SPONSORED BIKE RIDE IN SUPPORT OF NORTHEAST ANIMAL SHELTER

MILLER HOSTS SPONSORED BIKE RIDE IN SUPPORT OF NORTHEAST ANIMAL SHELTER

This morning, eight members of team Miller set off from our HQ in Cramlington, embarking on a sponsored bike ride, with a couple of remote workers also joining in. In aid of our chosen charity for 2023 – Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter – we managed to raise £1,650 for the shelter which will contribute towards our annual fundraising efforts and undoubtedly make a positive impact on the animals at the shelter.

As part of the planned bike ride, and to promote better health at work, we set out two routes. One covered 14 miles, and the other was an extended ride of 45 miles, in honour of Miller’s 45 years in business – both leading to Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter’s Longbenton facility, where we were greeted with refreshments and some of the shelter’s animal residents.

As part of our fundraising activities, we invited several local suppliers to sponsor the hi-vis vests worn by all participants of the bike ride. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the companies who made donations including our customer ASHBROOK Ltd and local suppliers Paintline, Milling Wear Parts, PREFIX Fixings and Fasteners LTD, Metalis Engineering, QCD Precision Engineering, and to members of team Miller and the wider community who donated.

The sponsored bike ride comes on the back of Miller supporting the shelter earlier this year, where we used our earthmoving equipment to clear the shelter’s recreational field and create a pool for the pigs at their Longbenton facility, marking the start of our 2023 partnership. This was shortly followed by the repair and refurbishment of nine new kennels and the main gate.

Amongst our group, two of our service engineers cycled down with us to carry out further repairs to the shelter’s facilities, providing extra safe spaces for the animals that come into the shelter.

Speaking about our charitable efforts, Rachael Kendall, General Manager at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter said: “We can’t thank Miller enough for their ongoing support and generosity towards the shelter.

“The work they carried out earlier this year has made a significant impact on our animal’s wellbeing and the funds they have raised from the sponsored bike ride will be put into caring for the 102 animals we currently house. Thank you also to the companies that sponsored Miller and to everyone who contributed both those that donated money and also took part in the bike ride itself.”

For 126 years, Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter has worked tirelessly to reunite lost animals in the North East with their owners, and finding loving homes for those no longer wanted, which is something everyone at Miller feels passionate about supporting.
