Design Engineer

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Development and documentation of design processes for products designed within the company.
  • Designing, prototyping, assessing and reviewing mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Producing high quality concept designs, drawings, schedules, and diagrams to suit the business needs and customer’s requirements.
  • Designing fixtures and test equipment.
  • Providing support in product acceptance, testing and validation activities.
  • Preparing and participating in requirements and design review meetings.
  • Undertaking analysis of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems, as well as manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Interfacing with different departments, contractors, suppliers and internal project teams to ensure that the drawings produced are delivered to what is required for internal and external customers.
  • Supporting of design, manufacturing and shop floor activities when required.
  • Providing technical support for the company’s product range across manufacturing, development, and procurement.
  • Providing technical assistance to both external and internal customers, joining company representatives at customer sites as and when required.
  • Working on concessions and repair schemes when required.
  • Maintaining a high level of technical knowledge coupled with ongoing professional development.
  • Supporting DFMEAs, reports and presentations as appropriate.
  • Working with the engineering team to oversee warranty and product return reviews.
  • Managing the existing database of products and ensuring all models are stored and accessible.
  • Undertaking other duties and tasks, appropriate to the function, as required.

 

Skills / requirements:

  • A strong background in product design and analysis within a manufacturing background.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to interact with, and present to, engineers and stakeholders, especially in a cross – functional team environment.
  • Diligent and disciplined approach to the design and development process.
  • Excellent proficiency in using Autodesk’s design suite, especially 3D Inventor and other associated CAD tools.
  • Good knowledge of PLM systems.
  • Experience of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation and hand calculations for design Static analysis.
  • Material research experience and development of processes for products including welding, machining, profiling, and other fabrication techniques.
  • Minimum HND qualified.
  • Experience of Ansys FEA Tools would be advantageous.
  • Excellent Microsoft Product suite knowledge including SharePoint.
  • Experience in design of Excavator attachments, buckets, couplers, and Tilt Couplers would be advantageous.
  • Experience managing products/ projects from concept to completion.
  • Ability to deliver a high standard of designs under critical time constraints.
  • Good knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
