At Miller, our commitment to excellence extends beyond our innovative products. As a global attachment manufacturer, we understand that success hinges on more than just innovation – it requires skilled and adaptable professionals who can navigate the complexities of today’s business landscape.
With over 38 years of running apprenticeship schemes, Miller has built a highly skilled team, including talent across all areas – from manufacturing to support functions like finance and business administration.
Through hands-on experience, exposure to industry best practices, and mentorship from seasoned experts, our apprentices gain the practical skills needed to thrive in a dynamic and ever-evolving field.
A recent success in the business includes Ava Simpson, who has recently completed her Business Administrator Apprenticeship. Having started her journey with Miller on a work experience programme, Ava quickly impressed those around her and was offered an apprenticeship role.
Ava shares her experience as an apprentice with Miller, as well as her future aspirations:
What has been the most rewarding part of your apprenticeship experience?
“For me, the most rewarding part of my apprenticeship experience was passing all my end-point assessments. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come since completing my initial two-week work experience with Miller. Aside from that, the support from the team around me has been so helpful. Throughout my apprenticeship, I’ve been trusted with increasing responsibility, and feeling my confidence grow has been extremely rewarding.”
What new skills or knowledge have you gained that you find most valuable?
“Due to the coursework I completed throughout my apprenticeship, I was able to spend time in a range of departments throughout Miller helping me to expand my knowledge across the business. A project that I am particularly proud of is my project surrounding upgrading our paperwork within Miller. I worked with CS, finance, and IT to carry out this project which focused on upgrading our invoices, packing slips and order acknowledgements to streamline our operations and enabling me to gain an array of skills and knowledge.”
Who has been your biggest mentor or inspiration during this journey, and why?
“Throughout my apprenticeship, Anne Handy, Customer Service and Aftersales Manager, has been one of my most significant mentors and sources of inspiration. Her guidance has played a huge role in my development and growth within the customer support team. Anne has not only provided me with valuable insights and practical skills but has also encouraged me to embrace challenges and learn from them. This support has been crucial in helping me complete my apprenticeship assessment, as she offered constructive feedback and shared her expertise, which improved the quality of my work.”
How do you think this apprenticeship has prepared you for your future career and what advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship in this field?
“For anyone considering an apprenticeship, my advice is to 100% go for it. An apprenticeship is a great solid foundation for your career, opening doors to future opportunities and helping you build a network of valuable connections.”
How do you see your role evolving within our company now that you are fully qualified?
“Now that I am fully qualified as a Customer Support Administrator, I hope to continue to grow and evolve within the customer support team. I would like my role to evolve by taking on more responsibilities working closely on accounts with major OEM’s and OED’s around the world.”
Speaking about Ava’s success, Anne Handy, Customer Service and Aftersales Manager said: “Everyone at Miller is extremely proud of Ava for successfully completing her apprenticeship. Her dedication and positive attitude toward every task has been truly impressive, and she has not only excelled in her role but also built strong and lasting relationships with our customers. We look forward to seeing her continued growth and contributions to the team.”
We would like to take this opportunity to say well done to Ava and wish her the best of luck in her new role!
